We were lucky enough to sit down with the marketing & merchandising team at the University of Washington’s bookstore for a friendly and informative conversation on their success and support of Alta Gracia. Below are some great tips from their fantastic team on ways to help increase awareness & sales of Alta Gracia at your store.
Product Sales:
Alta Gracia is performing solidly for us. We are in the TOP 3 SELLING SCHOOLS of Alta Gracia products in the nation. The bestselling items are the classics, tees and hoods with basic designs. Our bestselling colors are purple and black.
Customer Response:
The response to the Alta Gracia merchandise has been very good. When customers become aware of the mission of the company they are very supportive and excited to purchase the product. Many customers are selecting the merchandise without any recognition of the brand as well, which underscores the attractiveness and quality of the clothing.
Campus and Student Support:
We’ve been fortunate to work with a Retail Marketing class each winter quarter and provide them with opportunities to learn about and promote a product or brand to the campus community. During winter 2012 one of the groups created an excellent campaign for Alta Gracia products that included signage, displays and marketing to other students on campus. The response was excellent and the Alta Gracia sales manager even requested a copy of the campaign signage to share with their internal marketing group! Overall student response to the product has been great.
Marketing and Promotions:
Alta Gracia product has been featured, with signage, since it’s arrival in our stores in October, 2010. We created specific tags for our glass t-shirt cube displays for the Alta Gracia tees, and have updated our larger signage a couple of times each year. We’ve featured product in our window displays and currently it is a centerpiece line at our new store in the newly remodeled student union building. We’ve featured Alta Gracia in ads in our student newspaper, email campaigns and on our Facebook pages. We distribute a coupon book to students featuring local businesses and specials at the beginning of each quarter, and have included a discount coupon good for Alta Gracia merchandise on several occasions. We host a number of promotional shopping opportunities for our customers including Touchdown Tuesdays and our Campus Thank You Event. Alta Gracia is included in discounts for these and other events each year. UW students, faculty and staff get a 10% rebate on all purchases, including Alta Gracia product, each year. We have created a web page on our site that features Alta Gracia for sale online, as well as information about the mission of the company and links to further information.
Advice to other stores:
Work closely with Alta Gracia on product and graphics selection. Make sure you have good signage to attract attention to the products and the story of the company and their mission. Rotate Alta Gracia products through your displays and promotions throughout the year.
