Alta Gracia Factory Workers Are Getting Social on Facebook

Hey all, Ksenya here! In case you’re wondering, I’m the one jumping off the bench in black pants. I’ve been working on Alta Gracia in D.C. this summer, and it’s been awesome to get involved with this project especially connecting with the workers in the Dominican Republic.
 
We held our first live-streamed Skype call with workers from the factory back in June; it was great to communicate directly in real-time with them. The Skype calls with Alta Gracia’s factory workers have been a big hit and students have been sending requests to have us set them up at their school.  To help give everyone the chance to connect with the factory workers, our team is starting to live-stream the Skype calls and AG events to open up online channels so viewers to submit questions and comments (check out https://altagraciaapparel.com/get-involved/livefor details on the next event).
 
Aside from the fun of jumping around in the park, organizing cool events and having an excuse to be on Facebook, these methods of communication hit on a really important point: Namely, student involvement with and knowledge of the source of the product. Some college students can be skeptical about products with a “cause” – it can seem as if we’re just buying something without ever hearing about it again. But people want updates about the cause that drew them into buying an Alta Gracia shirt in the first place. Nobody wants a love ‘em and leave ‘em situation--So being able to communicate with workers is a great way to know that your t-shirt does mean something.

And here’s the great news Alta Gracia factory workers want to connect with us too! According to my sources (and by sources I mean our interns working in Villa Altagracia) the factory workers have asked our team to help train them up on how to use social media so they can answer questions, talk with students and supporters and update Alta Gracia fans about what’s happening in their community.  So if you want to talk directly to the factory workers post your questions or comments on the Alta Gracia Facebook page!
