KPAX News - By Robin O'Day - September 16, 2011 MISSOULA- Wearing Griz apparel shows your school spirit and depending on the brand you buy, it may also show you support living wages for foreign factory employees. The company Alta Gracia visited with U.M. faculty and staff to share their corporate and social strategy.

By charging slightly more for their T-shirts and other Griz gear, they are able to pay their factory employees a living wage. Vice President of Corporate Responsibility, Liz Kennedy says every consumer has the power of purchase.

"Asking these questions, digging a little deeper, making that effort to know more about every aspect of what we buy, has a ripple effect."

The Bookstore at the University of Montana has been carrying the Alta Gracia brand for several years and on the tag, you can see the person who actually made the article of clothing and how the company has improved the employee's quality of life.

A sweat shirt from the company runs an average of $3 more than other brands.
